Bacchus House, Collingwood, Ontario
Over the Canada Day long weekend, we took a little trip to Blue Mountain, and booked us a nice B&B in Collingwood – The Bacchus House. The hosts are Annette and Andy, they are very welcoming and super friendly. They even went out of their way to accommodate my vegan diet. Not only did Annette bought soy milk and special vegan bread for me, she also made killer banana blueberry pancakes for my breakfast! Thank you so much Annette and Andy!
The Bacchuse House is a historic victorian building that was constructed in the 1880s. Annette tells us the history of the house is not entirely clear, but it was thought the house was once owned by a very rich family because it is a yellow brick house. Yellow bricks were more expensive at those times, so unless you have wealthy means, most of the houses would be built with red bricks. From the following picture, you can clearly get a sense of the difference in brick colors.Bacchus House has won numerous awards since Andy and Annette took over and started operating it as a B&B. There are 4 different suites and each of them decorated in different Victorian styles.
The Living Room has a natural gas fireplace and lots of magazines and books for the you to read.
We stayed at the Pinot Noir Suite, which is painted in a lovely lilac. (Sorry for the poor phone picture, it really doesn’t do the room justice) Comfortable mattress and luxurious beddings guarantee a good night sleep.
Here is a look to the dining room downstairs. This is where we have our breakfast. Each table is separated from the others so the guests can be seated individually. (Much to Mr. R’s relief since he is so socially awkward :P)
Even got matching dishware to go with the decor.
Fresh fruit bowl, coffee, and juice to start. And of course I was so eager to dig into my vegan banana blueberry pancake I completely forgot to take a picture for it. (Sob…) I promise you, they were good and filling!
Afterthought: The hosts Andy and Annette were wonderful, the food was excellent, the room was romantic and relaxing. Unfortunately we didn’t have a good night sleep because of the other guests who had too much to drink and was talking and laughing extremely loudly in the middle of the night. It’s really too bad, otherwise it would have been an extraordinary B&B to stay at.
